LEA SALONGA is a Filipina singer and actress, best known for her roles in musical theatre, for supplying the singing voices of two Disney Princesses (Jasmine and Mulan), and as a recording artist and television performer.

At age 18, she originated the lead role of Kim in the musical Miss Saigon, first in the West End and then on Broadway, winning the Olivier and Theatre World Awards, and becoming the first Asian woman to win a Tony Award. Salonga is the first Filipino artist to sign with an international record label (Atlantic Records in 1993).

Salonga was the first actress of Asian descent to play the roles of Éponine and Fantine in the musical Les Misérables on Broadway. She also portrayed Éponine and Fantine, respectively, in the musical’s 10th and 25th anniversary concerts in London. She provided the singing voices of two official Disney Princesses: Jasmine in Aladdin (1992) and Fa Mulan in Mulan (1998). She was named a Disney Legend in 2011 for her work with The Walt Disney Company. Salonga starred as Mei-li in the 2002 Broadway version of Flower Drum Song. She has played numerous other stage, film and TV roles in the US, the Philippines and elsewhere. She has toured widely in the title role of Cinderella, among other roles, and as a concert artist. Tonight we return to the Royal Court, but all three restaurants will be enjoying the “Captain’s Gala” menu:

Our final day at sea will allow us to explore this amazing ship further. Some of the highlights to check out:

ENCHANTED ARTWORK

Throughout the Disney Fantasy, there are pieces of “enchanted” art. When you get close enough to a picture, it will come to life. With Bambi, the butterfly flutters about through the picture as the other character react. There’s a portrait of Walt Disney that starts animating when you approach it, and even two pieces of art (one a pirate ship, the other a land fortress) that get into a battle and fire cannonballs at each other.

THE MIDSHIP DETECTIVE AGENCY

The enchanted artwork takes on a whole new role with the MidShip Detective Agency, a fun game for all ages. You begin at the desk above, where you receive your detective badge and book and instructions. As you explore the ship, you will uncover the mystery by interacting with the enchanted art. There are several different storylines and resolutions, so each time it will be a different experience. It also takes you all over the ship, so be prepared to get in your steps!

THE BUENA VISTA THEATRE

Yes, this ship has TWO theatres. The Walt Disney Theatre is where you’ll see all the live production shows, but there’s also this full-sized movie theatre, operational every day of each cruise. Here, free of charge, are a wide variety of movies, from Disney classics to first-run films. And whenever a new Disney-owned film premieres on land, that movie will also make it’s PREM-EAR (think Mickey’s EARs) at sea. So for example, the last few Star Wars films have debuted on all four Disney ships on the very same day that they opened on land.

The theatre is also used for other events. Above, it is being used as the staging area for the tenders to take guests to and from the ship to shore.

SHOPPING

Sea days are perfect for exploring the shops onboard Disney Fantasy. They’ve got everything from sundries to Disney themed merchandise, plus luxury jewelry and watches. Today is also the day that we get to purchase our exclusive Maiden Voyage merchandise. To make it fair and easy for everyone (and to avoid a mad rush) Disney implemented the following steps:

Each of us received the list of available Maiden Voyage items a few weeks prior to sailing and we could order via that form. Some items were unlimited and we were guaranteed to be able to get that piece. Others were limited and if you applied for that one, you were placed in a random drawing. If you “won” the item, you were required to purchase it. This way, people didn’t bid on items they really didn’t want. One of the limited items (and luckily I got one) was this piece of the hull, cut in the form of Mickey Mouse:

There are only 500 of these in the world and I’m proud to own one of them as a wonderful keepsake of this unforgettable voyage.

Tonight, we received a “PlutoBill” as a souvenir of the Maiden Voyage. It’s a program featuring info about all the shows we’ve seen this week and signed by the artists. A nice touch.

Tomorrow is our final port – Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. You can see the map of the island on the bed, ready for us to explore tomorrow. Until we meet again, a virtual “good night” from onboard Disney Fantasy.
