Norwegian Jewel – Day 2 Recap

Day two of our Norwegian Jewel preview cruise is coming to and end. Here are some of the highlights.

Today was not only a sea day but also seminar day, with all the travel agents onboard spending a large chunk of the day in the ship’s conference room attending presentations by Houston’s Norwegian Cruise Line rep. We covered a lot of ground, most of which would be too “inside” and boring for most readers.

A few takeaways we can share:

  • Norwegian Cruise Line has some great new ships coming and is committed to having the youngest fleet in the industry.
  • For the best fares to Hawaii, it’s best to book early (as soon as the bookings open if possible)
  • Norwegian Cruise Line has one of the most generous groups programs, making them the perfect choice for reunions, multi-generational get-togethers, weddings, incentive trips and fund raising

But enough about work – let’s talk about play. Here are some of the featured activities from today’s schedule:

This afternoon guests could play “Deal or No Deal” for a chance to win $5000 or a cruise for two.

A cool feature on this ship that we’ve never seen on any other – your own karaoke “studio” that can be rented out for a small fee. The rooms hold about 5-10 people and basically let you have your own karaoke party. There are three onboard, just off the main lounge where a full room of karaoke is held.

The evening show in the main theatre was called “Band on the Run” and was basically a 70’s music tribute featuring songs from Queen, Styx, Donna Summer in more all in a “disco” atmosphere.

There was a cooking demo this afternoon in the French restaurant Le Bistro. The ship’s chefs were on hand to show off their skills and hopefully send us away with some of our own.

Norwegian Cruise Line features Nickelodeon at Sea and this evening, there was an arts & crafts party for the kids while the adults were browsing and bidding on a different type of art in the ship’s gallery.

There were also photos with the Captain and a wide variety of great shopping options. Plus, we heard music aplenty with several different performers and bands playing in locations throughout the ship all day long.

Dinner tonight was in the beautiful Tsar’s Palace, the more upscale of the two complimentary main dining rooms. This one has a dress code and is a way for the ship’s guests to choose to have a formal night whenever they choose.

This evening will be capped off by the “Norwegian Night Out” – a ship-wide party at various venue featuring live music, drink specials and a ton of fun.

Tomorrow morning we arrive at our first port: Cozumel, Mexico. We leave you this time around with a cruising tradition: a “good night” towel animal.
