When you board the newest Princess ship, you might just be checked in by cruise director Julie McCoy from the classic TV series “The Love Boat.”

Screen Shot 2014-11-21 at 11.06.02 AMPrincess Cruises recently honored the role that The Love Boat played in our history by selecting the hit TV show’s original cast members to serve as godparents for their new ship, Regal Princess! Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Fred Grandy (Gopher), Ted Lange (Isaac), Bernie Kopell (Doc), Lauren Tewes (Julie) and Jill Whelan (Vicki) reunited to christen the new ship. “The show has been such a visible part of
our company’s history, it made sense to kick off our 50th anniversary celebrations with this special tribute,” said Jan Swartz, president.

Nearly forty years ago, The Love Boat introduced viewers to modern-day cruising, and made Princess Cruises synonymous with fabulous vacations at sea.
The Love Boat’s pilot episode was shot aboard the original Sun Princess and the popular show aired from 1977 – 1986. Specials were filmed aboard many other Princess ships around the world.

Regal Princess arrived in Ft. Lauderdale to begin her maiden season in early November. This amazing ship features a stunning SeaWalk that extends 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship with views 128 feet straight down, a dramatic multi-story Atrium, plush poolside cabanas and more. The Regal Princess naming ceremony also featured a preview of 50th anniversary celebrations onboard which will be launched in 2015.
