Disney Wish Reaches Milestone in Construction
Today was a significant day in the construction of the first of three new Disney Cruise Line ships, with two exciting developments for Disney Wish.
Disney Cruise Line ships each have unique art on the bow, and today they revealed the above artwork, which will adorn the front of Disney Wish. The design features Captain Minnie Mouse, who officially became one of the cruise line’s captains last year.
From Disney Cruise Line: “The bow’s elegant filigree art, a hallmark of Disney Cruise Line vessels, includes an intricate scrollwork pattern reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s. And the portrait of Captain Minnie on the Disney Wish adds just the right amount of Disney whimsy to the design!”
During a ship’s construction, when the first block, or section of a ship, is lowered into the building dock, a newly minted coin is placed under the keel for good fortune. This is known as the keel laying ceremony and each Disney Cruise Line ship used a specially crafted coin made just for that ship. As you may have guessed, Disney Wish’s coin featured Captain Minnie.
Disney Wish is currently under construction in Germany at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg. She is expected to sail her maiden voyage in the summer of 2022. Two more ships will round out the “Triton Class” and will be built at the same shipyards. They are expected to enter service in 2024 and 2025.
The actual sail date and itinerary for the maiden voyage of Disney Wish has not yet been released, but Disney Cruise Line is teasing another big reveal coming soon. We expect the ship to sail from Port Canaveral initially, offering either 3/4 night cruises or 7 night voyages. Actual sail dates, itineraries, and an on-sale dat will likely be announced in the coming weeks.
