Norwegian Jewel – Day 5 Recap

Good evening from just off the coast of Roatan, Honduras, as our 7-night preview cruise of the Norwegian Jewel continues.

Today was the last of our three ports – beautiful Roatan, Honduras. Some local dancers met us at the dock to welcome us to their island and the shopkeepers were no doubt thrilled by the lack of forecasted rain. In fact, despite an 80% chance of rain, we only saw a few drops here and there. Overall, a very nice day. Tonight, we’re even being treated to some moonlight on the water for the first time this cruise. We’ll try to get a photo if the camera and clouds will allow.

For those who didn’t participate in an excursion or spend their day shopping in Roatan (or both) there was plenty to do onboard the Jewel.

Lunch today was at O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill (named for Norwegian Cruise Line head and former “Undercover Boss” Kevin Sheehan). This is one of the complimentary 24/7 restaurants on the ship and has lots of fun comfort food. We uploaded the entire menu on our Facebook page – be sure to check it out.

During lunch the kids club counselors brought their charges to lunch at the restaurant and watched “Wreck It Ralph” on the big screen. It was fun getting to watch the counselors interact with the kids – they’re very good at their jobs and anyone thinking of brining their kids on a cruise should have no worries whatsoever. These folks genuinely seemed to be enjoying the kids company but were also great about taking care of small disciplinary problems or outbursts in both a professional and low-key way.

Speaking of kids, this afternoon there was a meet-n-greet with the Nicktoons – all the Nickelodeon characters in one place ready for photos and autographs. The kids seemed to love this. The parents seemed a bit confused.

There was also a cool trivia contest this afternoon called Tri-Bond trivia where you were given three clues and had to come up with the answer. Here’s an example:

Category: Movies. Three clues: Shark, dinosaur, alien
Answer: Steven Spielberg

Some of these were tough!

One of the onboard musicians did a great tribute to James Taylor on guitar, while those brave enough could sing with the ship’s show band in a “Swinging & Crooning” version of karaoke. There was also another $5000 round of “Deal or No Deal” where someone won a free cruise for 2.

Tonight’s show is the “Action Comedy” of Scotty Cavanaugh. He’s been seen on FOX, ABC, ESPN and more and is a championship juggler. After his show, there’s a tropical deck party on the pool deck (hopefully under moonlight and no rain clouds).

Tomorrow is our first of two sea days as we start the journey back to Houston.

Tomorrow’s blog will have a Q&A featuring some of the questions we’ve received from our readers. If you have one, send it along here: info@premiercustomtravel.com
