Norwegian Jewel – Day 3 Recap

Hola from off the coast of Cozumel, Mexico. Here’s our latest update from our preview sailing of the Norwegian Jewel, the latest ship to call Texas home.

Today was our first port: Cozumel. This island is a very popular destination for Texas cruises and there were plenty of shore excursions from which to choose. We personally spotted parasailing, glass-bottomed boats, snorkeling and SCUBA divers, some deep sea fishing boats and several high-speed thrill ride crafts. Some friends of ours onboard went to a chocolate factory and made their own confections – how cool is that? And of course, we spotted many people returning to the ship with bags, no doubt after a long day of duty-free shopping.

For those who stayed onboard, there was plenty to do. A fantastic Caribbean band was playing poolside all day – we’re not 100% sure but we think they’re all crew members who formed a band. It was a Disney day on the big movie screen, with screenings of “Saving Mr. Banks” and “Frozen” on the atrium’s HD screen. There were tons of sports challenges, including golf, mini-golf, ping-pong, shuffleboard and more.

Tonight, it’s comedy night in the main theatre with comedian Sam Fedele. He’s been on the Tonight Show and Comedy Central and opened for folks like Kevin James, Brad Garrett, Jerry Seinfeld and even Michael Buble. Looking forward to his show. Then, we have plenty of options: Dancing with the Crew, Name that Tune with the ship’s show band, a country-western boot scootin’ dance party, karaoke, and even musical tributes to Neil Diamond and The Beatles by different bands onboard.

Tomorrow we arrive in Belize. Right now, Norwegian Cruise Line is building a brand new “private island” experience off the coast of Belize that will be connected to the mainland via road & bridge. When it opens next fall, it promises to make Belize an even more popular destination with your choice of activities on the island itself or you can choose to head ashore to Belize City. When the Norwegian Jade arrives in Houston in late fall 2015, this new facility will be open and cruises from Texas will stop there. We hope to get a sneak preview tomorrow and if so, we’ll be sure to take lots of pictures.

More tomorrow as this awesome 7-night adventure continues.
